HyENA, a Hyperliquid-based perpetuals venue built around Ethena’s USDe stablecoin, is winding down all of its markets after processing more than $4 billion in cumulative trading volume.
The shutdown begins Aug. 31 and runs through Sept. 2, with one market entering delisting pricing every hour. HyENA says positions will settle automatically and that users do not need to close them manually, while balances released from margin will return to spot accounts.
A Three-Day Market Wind-Down
The published plan covers 18 markets, spread evenly across three days. Each session starts at 10:00 UTC and ends at 15:00 UTC. The schedule is:
- Aug. 31: XPL, SUI, BNB, ADA, LINK and FARTCOIN.
- Sept. 1: XRP, DOGE, 1000PEPE, LTC, BASED and ZEC.
- Sept. 2: PUMP, ENA, SOL, HYPE, ETH and BTC.
When a market reaches its slot, its mark price will converge toward the one-hour time-weighted average of the relevant oracle price before settlement. Trading then halts for that contract. The process is designed to give open positions a defined final mark rather than closing every market simultaneously.
Why HyENA Is Closing
HyENA was built by the Based team under Hyperliquid’s HIP-3 framework, which allows independent deployers to operate perpetual markets using HyperCore’s order books and margining infrastructure. Its distinguishing feature was USDe collateral that could continue earning rewards while supporting perpetual positions.
The project launched while USDT, USDe and USDH were competing for a larger role in Hyperliquid’s stablecoin ecosystem. That landscape changed after Hyperliquid moved toward a deeper USDC alignment. Coinbase announced in May that it would become Hyperliquid’s official USDC treasury deployer and described USDC as the preferred stablecoin for the network’s on-chain capital markets. HyENA’s team said the shift made sense for Hyperliquid but reduced the room for its USDe-margin model.
Withdrawals, Rewards and Points
HyENA reported serving more than 12,000 traders, who earned close to 2.5 million USDe in margin rewards. It says no user funds are at risk during the wind-down, but withdrawals remain the key user action.
HLPe depositors can claim their holdings at a 1:1 rate plus accrued rewards through Upshift. Requests carry a one-day redemption period and incur no wind-down fee. The final regular reward issuance was scheduled for Aug. 27, while the last affiliate payout is set for Sept. 9.
HyENA Points are final following the conclusion of the Ethena Exchange Rewards program in June. They have no monetary value and will not receive a conversion or distribution. The team also says there is no HyENA token and no plan to launch one.
What Comes Next
The HyENA interface and wind-down resources are expected to remain available through at least Sept. 30, and the project’s Discord channel will stay open during the withdrawal period. USDe spot markets on Hyperliquid are separate from HyENA and are not included in the market delisting schedule.
