NEAR Protocol and Ondo Finance have launched tokenized U.S. stocks and exchange-traded funds on near.com, allowing eligible users to buy and hold exposure to assets such as Nvidia, Tesla, Apple, QQQ and SPY alongside cryptocurrency in one account.
Key facts
- The service went live on September 22, according to announcements from NEAR and Ondo.
- Users can fund purchases with USDC, Bitcoin, ETH and other supported crypto assets from more than 30 networks, according to NEAR and its press release.
- The initial offering includes tokenized Nvidia, Tesla, Apple, Google, Meta, Microsoft and Amazon shares, plus ETFs including SPY and QQQ, NEAR said.
- NEAR said the transactions use confidential execution, while settlement remains onchain.
- The products are unavailable to U.S. persons and users in Canada, according to the companies and independent coverage from The Defiant.
How the service works
The integration is built through NEAR Intents, the protocol’s cross-chain execution system. NEAR said near.com users can deposit supported assets, exchange them for an available tokenized stock or ETF, and later swap the position back into USDC or another supported asset without opening a separate brokerage account.
NEAR’s official announcement said users can fund accounts from more than 30 networks, including Bitcoin, Zcash, Solana and Tron. The system is intended to remove the need for manual bridging or separate wallets. NEAR Intents’ website describes the protocol as infrastructure for cross-chain swaps, unified liquidity and execution across multiple networks.
The companies also highlighted privacy. NEAR said near.com keeps trades confidential by default, preventing a user’s transaction size and strategy from being publicly linked to the user. The company said selective disclosure remains available for compliance purposes. The Defiant separately reported that the trades are not broadcast publicly.
What token holders receive
Ondo describes its products as total-return tracker tokens. According to NEAR’s announcement, they provide economic exposure to the underlying security’s price movements and reinvested dividends, after applicable withholding taxes. They are not direct ownership of the underlying shares.
Ondo’s product disclosures state that the tokenized assets are not themselves stocks, ETFs or American depositary receipts and do not give holders rights to receive or hold the underlying securities. The products are also subject to jurisdictional, onboarding and eligibility requirements. Ondo’s disclosures say the assets cannot be offered or sold in the United States or to U.S. persons unless registration or an exemption applies.
What’s next
NEAR said near.com is the first location for the integration, but the same Ondo assets are also available through participating wallets, decentralized-finance protocols and applications connected to NEAR Intents. NEAR said additional developers can integrate the assets, subject to applicable eligibility and compliance controls. The company also said near.com would charge no platform fees for the first 30 days after launch.
